To try and make things a bit more structured at next weeks BMUG meet (hopefully, beer permitting).

We thought that if anyone had any specific questions modo related, if your a newb wanting to know what this about, a designer struggling with a problem with the current software, or wanting to know about the joy that will be version 401 then can you list your question in the comments and we will do our best to answer them.

Well its getting very exciting in modo land, and to mark this occasion, and as a follow on from the escape event on the 3rd, for those who couldn't make it to escape or like me not get a ticket. BMUG is holding a 401 meeting in the Battle of Trafalgar Pub in Brighton. Last Thursday some of the local BMUGger's where able to attend an impromtu BMUG Meeting at BMUG HQ (aka The Battle of Trafalgar) due to the fact that 'Luxology UK', or as he likes to be more normally called, Andy Brown was in town.

Hi all, The next meeting of BMUG will be on the Thursday 18th of September starting at 7.30pm at the Battle of Trafalgar Pub in Brighton.

Aloha & Handy Modo Tutorials

Hi everyone, sorry for the geologic delay between posts, but my work has been very busy (using modo of course) and after that I needed to sleep. I am about to start looking for venues for our next meeting, again!

I have also got a copy of Dan Ablans 302 book which I am about to start reading to see what modo skills I’m missing - tip you can get it for a lot less on amazon by going to the second hand books under the main listing - I scored mine for £16.

Another book I would recommend is Digital Lighting and Rendering by Jeremy Birn, I read it on holiday, and now I make sure it is never less than 3 feet from my desk. I wish I had read this book 10 years ago. Although not modo specific, it is a real eye openener, especially in the way that ‘cheats’ are used

Still alive - honest!

Hi everyone, just to let you know that modoonthebeach is still alive. I have just been swamped with work, which has meant I haven’t been able to keep up with announcements and getting a new venue arranged.

Never fear things are looking better in July, and I hope to make the site easier to update and to get a dedicatd venue. So never fear there will be more modoonthebeach. In the meantime, check out the new demo available at luxology to create a concet car.

There are rumors hat an archviz tutorial pack is coming from Andy - I can’t wat for that one.

Hi everyone, I have just sent out bmug's first newsletter to our members. It contains details of our latest tutorial from neil. As well as our aims, how to keep in touch, and what we expect to be the format of our next meeting.

Escape Studios Event

BMUG First presentation/Tutorial - Introduction to Linear Workflow

Neil has very kindly created our first Tutorial - good man:)

Its on Linear workflow, contact Neil for a link to the video. It will be on of our major topics for Thursday nights meeting, I for one am a novice in this area, and am really looking forward on how an understanding of these techniques will improve my renders.

Hopefully from the Q&A's on Thursday we will have enough info to create more videos specifically tailored to the needs of bmug members.

Thursday meeting Update

Hi everyone,

Would have this posted last night, but my mac wanted me to test if time machine worked on sunday and monday evening. Thankfully it does, just keep your leopard disk handy.

Anyway, We look like we will be having a good turnout from all over the South East as before on Thursday.

There is a healthy thread on the luxology forum about who is coming and how. (click here)

Its the same table in the Shakespeare's Head as before it turns out, but thats not the end of the world and if it does become too much we can scout local pubs around quite quickly.

The Agenda for Thursday will be:

• BMUG Expectations, Direction and Nominations of roles
• linear workflow in modo
• shader tree Q&A
• AOB

As stated we will have a laptop there to fiddle with. So thats it for now, hopefully see you on thursday

This will be in the form of a printable PDF which will account what we have been up to for he previous month, and any news that is going on in the world of luxology.

Neil from www.vee3d.com has very kindly suggested that he runs us through "linear workflow in modo". If anyone else, has questions for this session, or wants to do their own piece, whether it be explanation or needing a problem solved let me know and we will get an agenda together

Anyone looking for Museum Design work in London?

3D Designers

We are looking for both senior and medium/junior level designers from either an interiors, spatial or architectural background preferably with a degree of previous working experience in Exhibition or Museum design. We would also welcome designers from a Retail/Interiors background and with travelling/touring exhibition experience.

Designers would need to be able to use Mac/Vectorworks.

2D Designers

Looking for experienced Graphic designers, both medium/junior and senior/experienced levels. Previous exhibition experience is preferable.

Content Research/Managers

Looking for both Content Researchers and Content managers. Previous experience preferable.
Content Researcher role would involve research, writing and working closely with designers through a project's development.
Content Manager role would involve general coordination of material between RAA and other parties.

Ok so since its getting on and I was in the Shakespeare's Head on Saturday, it turns out we can hire out the quieter room for free, we need a good number 10 or so, (but even if I can reserve the table and plug, yes there is power access), they can open the room up to other patrons, but the music isnt as obtrusive as the main area.

Its available from Mon-Thurs evening. SO I figured strike while the Iron is hot, I am proposing a date of the 24th of April, which is a Thursday or the 21st, Monday, so we can start the week in style?

Let me know if is is cool with people? Also I think we should try and make meetings monthly for locals so that people from farther afield can have a regular date in their diary.

Right then back to the 302 tutorials :)

Arranging venues and times for next meet

As its been a while and with the release of 302 tomorrow, there hasn't been a better time for our first proper meet.

I'm going to check out the open house at the weekend to see what its like. I already know that the Tin Drum can have tables booked. But I need to know what day we prefer for meetings. Personally Thursday evenings or Weekends suite me best, but voice your opinion in the comments please so I can get schedules together.. Also don't see either of these venues as fixed, if anyone has had luck elsewhere, don't be shy and leave a comment.

We got a Logo!

Thanks to those nice people at Luxology, we have an official logo - yay:)

This will be used in all official correspondence from now on for modo on the beach, so if your speaking on our behalf and need access to them let me know and I will send you the files. I'm just amazed they got it to us before 302 appears tomorrow.

They musn't be busy;)

Welcome to modo on the beach

Hello and welcome to the website for the Brighton and Hove modo Users Group.

We had our first meeting at the Shakespeare's Head on the 28th of February where we had 7 'beta' members turn up from near and far (oxford - well done leif:))

This site's purpose is to be the meeting post for the group, with news about meetings, modo related news and info for and about our members.

As the site expands I will add comments and a more useful feedback system, but I would like to keep that to just members for now, so contact me, and I will start to build a database of members (and post your website to our members links), so that we can get things going.

Let me know if there is anything else we need
